The Valley High School dance program has been running for about 34 years. This program strives to inspire our community and surrounding areas through dance education and performances. We are a program dedicated to educating and training every dancer in a supportive environment that challenges and builds character of the highest caliber. We aid students in developing their knowledge of dance as a relevant and respected academic subject and extracurricular activity. We also encourage them to become self-sufficient and COMMITTED young adults in order to drive themselves towards success. Our dancers are expected to graduate with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable their transition to their chosen college and career paths. We long to empower them to become productive members of the local and global community

Beginning Dance
This class meets the two-year State Physical Education requirement or is an A-G requirement for Fine Arts. This class is open to any student. Students will learn to apply choreographic principles, processes, and skills to create and communicate meaning through dance. They will also demonstrate movement skills in a variety of dance genres and be able to describe movement using proper dance vocabulary. Lastly, they will understand how to critically assess and derive meaning from works of dance and respond orally and in writing.
Advanced Dance
This class meets the two-year State Physical Education requirement or is an A-G requirement for Fine Arts. This class is based on the teacher’s selection of students.
This intermediate course builds on the skills and concepts introduced from the beginning dance class by teaching more challenging movement phrases and technique. The primary focus is the refinement of dance technique, further development of fitness levels and mastering increasingly difficult dance choreography. Students will have more opportunities to create their own choreographic studies and develop their personal dance aesthetic.
Dance Production
This class meets the two-year State Physical Education requirement or is an A-G requirement for Fine Arts. The dance production class consists of students who have auditioned, have been accepted through the results of adjudication, and have met the requirements that are necessary for membership on the Valley High School Dance Team.
It is considered the highest dance level course. Dance Production is designed as a performance based class that will utilize all the skills and tools developed in previous dance course work through frequent dance performances. Students’ study of dance will be finer tuned with technique, choreography, and performance.
